To create a data backup on a USB device:

  1. Change the system password to an access right that permits access to Backup.
  2. From the main menu bar, click UtilitiesBackupData Only.
  3. A prompt displays in the GPD - Data Backup window.

    GPD Global Dispenser Data Backup

    Back up to USB Device? (Y/n) y

    If the prompt displayed in the GPD - Data Backup window is Do you really want to perform a Data Backup to /dev/fd0 (Y/n)?, do not attempt to continue. This message indicates the USB system is unavailable. Press CTRL and C to halt the backup utility. Resolving this issue is beyond the scope of this article. Contact customer service for more information.

  4. Answer Y and press ENTER.
  5. A prompt displays in the GPD - Data Backup window.

    Mount the USB device.  Press ENTER when ready, A to abort.

  6. Insert the USB device for backing up the dispenser into any available USB port of the process control computer in your dispenser and press ENTER.
  7. A prompt displays in the GPD - Data Backup window.

    Press ENTER to use the default backup directory /dos/c/Backups;
    Otherwise, enter the name of the desired directory:

    If the prompt displayed in the GPD - Data Backup window is again Mount the USB device.  Press ENTER when ready, A to abort., do not attempt to continue. This message indicates the USB system is unavailable. Press CTRL and C to halt the backup utility. Resolving this issue is beyond the scope of this article. Contact customer service for more information.

  8. Choose either the typical response of using the default Backup directory by pressing Enter, or, if a different name is desired, enter it now; a directory with the new name will be created automatically on the USB device.
  9. A prompt displays in the GPD - Data Backup window.

    Current Files are:
    example_file_1.f     example_file_2.f

    Enter a file name for this backup: filename_example

    If the prompted displayed in the GPD - Data Backup window contains (No existing backups), this indicates no backups were found on the USB device. This is not an error. Continue with the next step.

  10. Enter a file name avoiding the use of spaces. Name length is not limited.
  11. A prompt displays in the GPD - Data Backup window.

    Do you really want to perform a Data Backup

    to /dos/c/Backups/filename_example (Y/n) y

  12. Answer Y and press ENTER.
  13. The system begins the backup. Ignore the following error (this information is for GPD Global use only).

    pax: /etc/samba.setup : No such file or directory
    pax: /etc/start.tcpip : No such file or directory

  14. The system finishes the backup with:

                   * * * * *

    Remove the USB device
    Remove all USB storage devices now.

  15. Remove the USB device from the USB port of the process control computer.

    The Remove all USB storage devices now. will repeat until the USB device is removed.

  16. A prompt displays in the GPD - Data Backup window.

    Backup Complete

    Done Press ENTER to continue

  17. Press Enter to close the GPD - Data Backup window.
