Requirements for Restoring from USB Data Only Backup

  • Your dispenser must be equipped with a USB ports in order to use this procedure.
  • Your dispenser must be bootable from the primary hard drive.
  • You must have a valid data only backup on a compatible USB drive.

Restoring Data Only Backup

To restore data from a data backup file on USB:

  1. From the main menu bar, click on UtilitesRestore Backup.

    If you cannot access the Utilities menu, use a command prompt to type restore.sh and press ENTER to continue.

  2. A prompt displays in the GPD - Restore window.

  3. Answer Y and press ENTER.
  4. A prompt displays in the GPD - Restore window.

    Restore from USB device?(Y/n)

    If the prompt displayed in the GPD - Restore window is Do you want to restore from the backup hard drive?(Y/n), do not attempt to continue. This message indicates the USB system is unavailable. Press CTRL and C to halt the restore utility. Resolving this issue is beyond the scope of this article. Contact customer service for more information.

  5. A prompt displays in the GPD - Restore window.

    Mount the USB device.  Press ENTER when ready, A to abort.

  6. Insert the USB drive a current Data Backup in any of the USB ports. Verify the light on the USB drive lights (if equipped) then press ENTER.
  7. A prompt displays in the GPD - Restore window.

    Press ENTER to use the default backup directory /dos/c/Backups;
    Otherwise, enter the name of the desired directory:

    If the prompt displayed in the GPD - Restore window is Mount the USB device.  Press ENTER when ready, A to abort., do not attempt to continue. This message indicates the USB drive is not detected. Press CTRL and C to halt the restore utility. From the main menu bar, click on UtilitesUnmount USB and flow the onscreen instructions for disconnecting the USB drive. Once the USB drive is removed from the USB port, return to step 1 (one). If this problem returns at this step, resolving this issue is beyond the scope of this article. Contact customer service for more information.

  8. Press ENTER to continue using the default directory.

    If the backup file is not stored in the Backups of the USB drive, type the apporiate path before pressing enter.

  9. A prompt displays in the GPD - Restore window.

    Current Backups are:
    example_item_1.F          example_item_2.F

    Enter a file name for this backup:

    If the prompt in the GPD - Restore window contains (No existing backups: Aborting), do not attempt to continue. This message indicates no backup files are found in the path provided. Press CTRL and C to halt the restore utility. Return to step 1 (one). At step 8 (eight), choose a different directory.

  10. Choose a file by typing the full name of the file name as it appears in the list and press ENTER.
  11. A prompt displays in the GPD - Restore window.

    Restoring From USB Device /dos/c/Backups/example_item_1.F
    Do you want to continue?(Y/n)

  12. Verify the file path is correct. Answer Y and press ENTER.

    If the file path is incorrect, answer N and press ENTER. Follow the prompts on the screen. Return to step 1 (one).

  13. A prompt displays in the GPD - Restore window.

    NOTE: Servo and System configurations should be restored ONLY
          on the machine from which they were backed up.

    Restore All or Selected configurations or None?(A/s/n):

  14. Answer S and press ENTER.
  15. A prompt displays in the GPD - Restore window.

    Restore I/O configurations (Y/n)?

  16. Answer Y and press ENTER.

    To skip restoring of the I/O configurations, answer N and press ENTER.

  17. A prompt displays in the GPD - Restore window.

    Restore Machine Options configurations (Y/n)?

  18. Answer Y and press ENTER.

    To skip restoring of the machine options configurations, answer N and press ENTER.

  19. A prompt displays in the GPD - Restore window.

    Restore Servo configurations (y/N)?

  20. Answer Y and press ENTER.

    To skip restoring of the servo configurations, answer N and press ENTER.

  21. A prompt displays in the GPD - Restore window.

    Restore System configurations (y/N)?

  22. Answer Y and press ENTER.

    To skip restoring of the system configurations, answer N and press ENTER.

  23. A prompt displays in the GPD - Restore window.

    Update data base with Copy, Import, or Nothing (C/i/n)?

  24. Answer I and press ENTER.

    To skip updating of the database, answer N and press ENTER.

  25. A prompt displays in the GPD - Restore window.

    Press ENTER to continue, Y to preserve trace.

  26. Press ENTER.

    Some procedures or GPD Global personnel may direct you to select Y and press ENTER at this step.

  27. A prompt displays in the GPD - Restore window.

    Remove the USB device

  28. Remove the USB drive from the USB port.
  29. A prompt displays in the GPD - Restore window.

    REBOOT REQUIRED
    Press ENTER to reboot

  30. Press ENTER.
  31. A prompt displays in the GPD - Restore window.

    Initiating reboot - - -

    The reboot should start within 30 seconds. If the reboot does not start within 60 seconds, turn off the power to your dispenser using the emergancy stop switch.

  32. After rebooting your dispenser verify restored data is correct.
