The system log files on your dispenser contain information regarding many parts of the software for the current operating time. The files are created at each startup, so rebooting your dispenser creates new files. Sometimes the log files can provide insight into an event. Exporting the log files soon after the event can provide valuable information.

Exporting System Log Files from FLOware® Software

Exporting the system log files from FLOware® software requires:

  • access to the System Functions menu

A password that permits access to System is required.

To export the system log files from FLOware® software, follow these steps:

  1. Change the system password to an access right that permits access to System.
  2. From the main menu bar, click System FunctionsShell.

If the System Functions menu is unavailable, move the cursor to the bottom edge of the screen where the cursor changes from an arrow to an X, click and hold the right trackball button to access the Root Menu (while holding the right trackball button), move the cursor to Shell, and release the right trackball button.

  3. The Shell window appears.
  4. Depending on the capabilities of your dispenser, do one of the following:
    • If your dispenser supports USB:
      1. Insert a compatible USB drive into one of the USB ports.
      2. In the Shell window, type the following command and press ENTER:

        logDump  >/dos/c/logFiles.log

This command is successful if no errors are reported.

      3. When the command is complete, select UtilitiesUnmount USB from the main menu bar.
      4. The M48: Remove the USB device now window appears.
      5. Remove the USB device.
    • If your dispenser does not support USB:
      1. Insert a DOS formatted disk into the floppy disk drive.
      2. In the Shell window, type the following command and press ENTER:

        logDump  >/dos/a/logFiles.log

      3. When the command is complete, eject the disk from the floppy disk drive.
  5. Use your desktop computer to send logFiles.log found on the media (USB drive or floppy disk) used above.

Exporting System Log Files from Low Level

In some cases, the USB system is unavailable as a result of an error at start up (an error that should be logged). Because the USB system is unavailable, USB cannot be used for exporting the system log files.

Two options remain for exporting the system log files:

  • Export the system log files from FLOware® software without using the USB port (use a floppy disk instead).
  • Export the system log files from a low level prompt.

Each time your dispenser boots, old log files are removed and the system log files from the previous boot are backed up before starting new log files. If it is possible to read the system log files from one boot prior, older system log files are permanently removed. Be sure to reboot only once after an error has occurred.

To export the system log files from a low level prompt, follow these steps:

  1. Shutdown your dispenser normally.
  2. Power on your dispenser normally.
  3. During startup, press <ctrl> C after the message beginning "Last Login" appears.
  4. A "DS9000 Startup Procedure Failed" message appears.
  5. Insert a compatible USB drive into one of the USB ports.
  6. At the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:

    logDump  -l  stdLog.old  -e  errLog.old  >/dos/c/logFiles.log

  7. When the command is complete, type the following command and press ENTER:

    usb-umount.sh

  8. Remove the USB device.
  9. Use your desktop computer to send logFiles.log found on the USB drive used above.
